• Xello is the new program that is used by the district with all RCS students for exploring careers suited to their interests and aptitudes. Parents and students are also encouraged to use it at home.  Their username and password is the same as the school login.  RHS counselors meet with students each year using this program to develop their Educational Development Plans (EDP's) that keeps building on their profile each year.  Click on the Xello button in the quicklinks at the top of this page to access this program.

Students are encouraged to use this Four Year Course Selection Planning Form to assist them in their selection of courses throughout their high school years.  For an overview of courses needed for graduation and the order in which subject-area courses are taken, view the  Curriculum website under the secondary section.  Scroll down to High School Course Catalog.  You will see the most current High School Course Catalog along with the High School Registration Booklet.  Both will provide you with detailed information related to scheduling and graduation requirements.  You could also visit the grade level tabs above and look at the scheduling tab for specific information developed for that grade level.

Credit by Exam Website

The Exam for Credit measures a student’s current understanding of a course’s curriculum prior to taking the course. The material and resources provided will not be all inclusive of the specific exam questions.  

GUIDELINES
The following guidelines apply to the exam for credit procedures for RCS students.

1. State guidelines for Exam for Credit require a 77% or better passing score.

2. Students, who receive 77% or better on their assessment, will receive “T/O” (Test Out) along with the amount of credit they earned on their transcript. Only passing grades will be recorded on the transcript.

3. Courses tested out of successfully will be accepted as fulfillment of a requirement in a course sequence.

4. Courses tested out of successfully will not count in the computation of the student’s grade point average.

5. Courses tested out of successfully will satisfy the numerical credits necessary for the fulfillment of graduation requirements.

6. A student who earns credit through Exam for Credit may not enroll in that course or test out of a lower course in the course sequence.

7. Students will have the opportunity to test out of courses each year but cannot test more than once for any particular course.

8. With Curriculum Department approval, a student who has taken a course and failed may take an Exam for Credit in that course as a credit recovery option. 

9. During the Winter Exam for Credit testing period, students may apply for a one semester course only and may only take one exam.* We are providing single semester course exams during the winter to help students avoid taking multiple exams in the spring.

10. During the Spring Exam for Credit testing period, students may apply for
semester or year-long courses and may take up to 4 semester exams or 2 year-long exams.

11. A student who registers for a test is expected to either take the test or cancel their registration. Failure to comply may compromise the ability to register in future years.

Student Athletes considering playing college level sports should register for the NCAA Clearing House in their junior year.  This includes sending a transcript through parchment.com and completing the clearinghouse application on the NCAA website.

Your counselor is available upon appointment as a courtesy for guidance in academic planning and NCAA requirements, however NCAA eligibility is the responsibility of the student and family. 

The Oakland Schools Technical Campus is an opportunity for 11^th and 12^th grade students who would enjoy the hands on experience.  They provide an opportunity to earn a free associates degree from Oakland Community College, state licenses and/or industry recognized certificates.  Students who attend OSTC will get a head start on college and/or their career!

Every year RCS complies a list of tutors for students!
The district list of tutors is compiled as a courtesy service to parents and students.  It is not to be taken as a recommendation.  Tutors listed are not employed as tutors by Rochester Community Schools and are not subject to background checks.  If you intend to use this list to hire a tutor, it is your responsibility to interview candidates and make a selection based on information you feel is relevant to your particular needs.

TUTOR LIST

Work permits can be found in the Counseling and the Main offices. Please make sure you choose the correct form (there are separate forms for under age 16 and for ages 16 & 17). 

• Student will complete Section I
• Employer will complete Section II
• Return the form to RHS Counseling Office once the first two sections are fully complete so we can process Section III.

If you prefer to print your own copy, please make sure the 2nd page is printed on the back side to be valid.  The form for under 16 year olds also needs to be printed in the landscape mode to be valid.

The building is open throughout the summer Monday - Thursday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm however, you may want to call ahead to make sure there is someone available to complete Section III.
